When to Replace Track Links

1.Wear is the Primary Indicator:

• Replace links when the height of the link bushings (the cylindrical part connecting links) shows significant reduction. A common benchmark is replacing when bushing height wears down by 10–15% of its original size. Severe wear leads to poor sprocket engagement and track derailment risks.

• Check for visible cracks, deformations, or excessive elongation (stretched links causing loose tracks). If adjusting tension no longer keeps the track snug, links/sprockets are likely worn out .

2.Sprocket Wear Correlation:

• Worn links accelerate sprocket wear, and vice versa. Always inspect sprockets when replacing links. If sprocket teeth are hooked or thin, replace both simultaneously for optimal performance .

3.Operating Conditions:

• Hard/Rocky Ground: Accelerates wear; inspect links monthly.

What Is An Excavator Track Link(Track Chain) ?

An excavator chain, more commonly called a track chain or undercarriage chain, is a critical component of a crawler excavator's movement system. It consists of interlinked metal segments (track links) that form a continuous loop, allowing the machine to move smoothly over rough terrain.
